After gaining his license to practice medicine from Damascus University, Ghassan Assaf went on to carry out his residency in Paediatrics at the university's Hospital of Children. Throughout the 4-year program, he became learned in all aspects of Paediatric medicine, including intensive care, endocrinology, neurology, infectious disease, haematology, and oncology, amongst others. The Paediatric Specialist has since had over 15 years of experience working in children's medicine, developing further skills in consultations, patient care, vaccine administration, and the diagnosis and treatment of general disease. For the past 10 years, Ghassan has taken an interest in mobility problems, particularly in children, caused by the likes of Cerebral Palsy, neurological and orthopaedic troubles, and burn injuries. Throughout his training and experience, he has become a specialist in numerous forms of rehabilitation in the process, with a number of research publications under his belt.

Over his employment history, which includes stints at Bullion Paediatrics and Rehabilitation Hospital and the Doha Al-Hayat Medical Centre, Ghassan has amassed exceptional informatics skills, including several programming languages, which has led to the development of his own applications. Along with programs to export important patient data, he has developed vision test applications, including a program for ocular movement rehabilitation in children with Cerebral Palsy, which was tested in the Raymond Poincare University Hospital.

Like many of his colleagues, Ghassan speaks several languages – English, French and his native Arabic – and is a regular attendant of conferences and workshops to further expand his knowledge.

Marwan Depal has over 17 years’ experience in General, Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeries, including reconstructive surgery, facial cosmetic procedures, breast augmentation, abdominoplasty, birthmark and tattoo removal, as well as aesthetic injectables. After receiving his Doctor of Medicine Certificate at the Medicine Academy in Sophia in 1993, he gained his General Surgery, and Burns, Plastic, and Reconstructive Surgery Specialist Certificates from Damascus University, in his native Syria.

His bank of surgical knowledge has been added to throughout his work history, holding positions as a Specialist in Burns, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Consultant General and Plastic Surgeon, most recently at Sama Medical Care in Doha. Passionate about patient care, Dr. Depal uses his plentiful experience to ensure that each of his patients receives the best possible service, from consultation, through to procedure and aftercare. Certified Dentist Dr. Bassem Hmiedan received his DDS at Syria's Tishreen University in 1999 and furthered his knowledge by completing his Diploma in Periodontology in 2006. After holding a number of positions as a Clinical Supervisor in the Periodontology Department of various Universities in Syria, as well as operating his own Private Clinic in Latakia. His most recent position was as a Consultant Periodontist and Implantologist in Doha's Art Dental Polyclinic. With such a successful prior career in Dentistry, we feel very lucky that Dr. Hmiedan has decided to take his next career step with us here at West Bay Medicare.

Dr. Hmiedan – like many of his colleagues at West Bay Medicare – is passionate about increasing his wealth and depth of knowledge, regularly attending conferences and training courses to keep up to date with the latest developments in the world of dentistry. Keenly interested in implantology, bone regeneration, and gingival plastic surgery, he has conducted his own research, contributing to his field and gaining his MSc in Periodontology in the process.

Following a few internships, she went on to gain clinical experience in her chosen field of medicine, taking private practice positions as a Supportive Specialist in OB & GYN. Dr. Ertan boosted her career and experience with the opening of her own private practice in Landstuhl, Germany, where she worked from 2001 to 2007. She then moved to Cologne, Germany, where she once again opened her own practice with a colleague, which specialized in Preventative Medicine, Endocrinology, and OB & GYN.

Before joining West Bay Medicare, Dr. Ertan spent four years in an Independent Private Practice for OB & GYN, Holistic Medicine, and Coping Strategies for Stress, broadening her fields of expertise. In 2012 he went on to gain a Degree and Practising License of Diagnostic Laboratory from the Syrian Ministry of Health, as well as Practising License of Diagnostic and Anatomical and Clinical Pathology from the Qatar Supreme Council of Health. His bilingual skills in his native Arabic and English, have been useful as an avid attendee of symposiums and workshops, to further his knowledge of his field and beyond.

The specialist in Laboratory Medicine, and Anatomical and Clinical Pathology is a valued member of the medical team thanks to his expertise in an extensive range of areas. His experience with laboratory diagnostics, testing, ethics, and management has proven vital in our mission to provide the best in patient care. Dr. Rana Alasaad joined the faculty of medicine at Damascus University in 2006 and graduated in 2012 with an excellent degree. She was trained at Naser Aldeen Gastroenterology Medical Center in 2013 and gained experience in managing common liver and gastrointestinal diseases.

In 2014, she started a residency training program in the Internal Medicine Department at Damascus University Teaching Hospitals wherein she completed two years of training in variable divisions of Internal Medicine including emergency and Intensive Care Units (ICUs). She continued her postgraduate studies in the Endocrinology and Metabolism Department at Damascus University Teaching Hospitals between 2016 and 2019.

Dr. Ahmed Al Wadiya finished Doctor of Medicine in 2004 and completed the Specialization Diploma in Orthopaedics in 2011 in which he also got the Slovak Board- Certification in Orthopaedic.
